What Is the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme?

PDRS aims to reduce peak electricity demand across NSW by offering financial incentives for households and businesses that reduce energy consumption during periods of high demand.

By easing demand at peak times, the scheme helps lower electricity costs and reduce the risk of power outages — while supporting NSW's broader targets of cutting emissions 70% by 2035 and reaching net zero by 2050.

Eligibility

Two Battery Incentives Available

You may be eligible to claim both rebates on the same battery.

New Battery Installation

Residential or small business property
Site must already have, or be installing, a solar PV system
No existing battery currently installed at the property
Total battery capacity under 28kWh
Battery model on the Clean Energy Council's approved list
Battery capacity between 2kWh and 28kWh, VPP-capable

Connecting a Battery to a VPP

Residential property only
Solar PV system already installed on-site
No life support equipment in use at the property
Total system capacity under 28kWh
Battery listed on the CEC's approved list for VPP use
At least 6 years of warranty remaining on the battery
